Okay, now that Katsucon is over and my life is settling down again, anyone still up for this roleplay?

So I guess that in the meantime we’ll see if we can’t gather some interest. A heads up guys, we’re on hold for a few weeks until our Karkat is no longer busy preparing for a convention. To be honest I’m also going to be super busy next week but I’ll check in to see how things are going. We’ll set an official “start” date when all these pesky details are hammered out.

While we’re waiting, lets take a look at the characters that are still available and looking for roleplayers.

Trolls:

Feferi, Eridan, Gamzee, Equius, Vriska, Terezi, Kanaya, Nepeta, Sollux, Tavros, Aradia, Karkat

Kids:

John, Jade, Dave, Rose

Midnight crew:

Spades Slick, Diamonds Droog, Hearts Boxcars, Clubs Deuce

If you’re interested in roleplaying any of these characters, please make sure you’re okay with their AU character background, which you can find HERE. As much freedom as we want everyone to have with their character there is reasoning behind all their occupations and we need to stick to that.

After everyone has been picked we’ll give everyone a last minute chance to back out if you have any doubts that you’ll be able to keep up with the roleplay. In this particular plot it’s key that EVERYONE stays active and somehow involved, or else certain leads and plot points won’t be filled and the roleplay will start to falter. If during the roleplay you think you’ll have to back out, we’ll try our best to help that transition go as smoothly as possible, and may or may not bring someone new in to fill the spot.

If you want to roleplay certain ships or pairings you’ll have to take that up with the roleplayer.

Character contact web: This is just to show how they are connected to other characters through their occupations. Some characters may have kept in touch and remained friends after winning the game. Those unprofessional relations are up to the roleplayers.

Feferi: Has talked with Eridan in interviews concerning her view on her Ancestor’s company.
Eridan: Receives anonymous information from Sollux. Interviewed Feferi numerous times.
Gamzee: Knows Vriska through his work in the drug ring. Occasionally might run into Aradia.
Equius: Assumed guardianship over Nepeta. In touch with Tavros over his prosthetic work. Sometimes deals with Karkat for movie equipment and robotics.
Vriska: Knows Gamzee through her contacts in the drug ring. Sometimes runs into Aradia at the casino.
Terezi: Has dealt with Aradia through her undercover work. Interacted with Sollux, doesn’t know he’s an investigator.
Kanaya: Works with Karkat for costume designs.
Nepeta: Equius’s ward. In touch with Tavros through him.
Sollux:  Knows Aradia through his covert investigation in the company. Dealt with Terezi as well, doesn’t know she’s an undercover cop.
Tavros: Went to Equius, funded by the Condesce, for work on his prosthetics.
Aradia: “works” with Terezi and Sollux at the company. Visits Vriska at the casino as part of her detail to spy on the Midnight Crew. Occasionally deals with Gamzee in the drug ring.
Karkat: Goes to Kanaya for costume designing for his movies. Occasionally works with Equius for set equipment and robotics.

Gang affiliations and contacts:

Aradia: Member of the Felt. Poses as a company employee to get inside information about the Condesce and the Midnight Crew.
Vriska: Co-owns her casino with the Midnight Crew.
Gamzee: Deals with both the Felt and the Midnight Crew due to his contacts in the drug ring.

I thought up a few ways that the characters might be linked to one another today. These are by no means the “final product”: if you guys have ideas for more ways they can be connected, or if one of mine doesn’t make sense, I’m all ears! Did we like having a tinychat session to talk about this last night? Maybe we could do another one again later today.

Murder Victim: Her Imperious Condescension

Victim background: Charismatic head of a large, monopolizing corporation. Owns a bunch of other companies that she’s bought out with her mysterious amount of wealth. Has been known to do charity work to improve her public image for her election campaign. Feferi Peixes is the heir to her corporation. 

Feferi: Heir to the company owned by the late Condescension. It’s not known whether or not she approved of the way the company was run.

Eridan: Journalist/photographer who writes a column for a magazine. Has been writing articles on the Condescension and her company as of late thanks to an anonymous inside source.

Gamzee: Has ties in the drug ring and supposedly did deals with Condescension, but of what nature is unclear. Allegedly was involuntarily dragged into joining at first. (crush, drug addiction, alcoholism, blackmail, etc.)

Equius: Assistant manager at a robotics engineering company that was bought out by Condescension.

Vriska: Owner of a successful casino also run in part by the Midnight Crew. Allegedly involved with the same drug ring involving Condescension, and a good portion of her money is currently at the casino.

Terezi: Sent in by the police force as an undercover cop in the company quite some time before the murder. Her assignment was to see how deep the suspected corruption runs.

Kanaya: Seamstress of her own clothing line that was bought out by the company.

Nepeta: Taken care of by her adoptive guardian Equius. Leads a group of protesters against Condescension in light of Equius losing his company to her.

Sollux: Infiltrated the company of his own accord long before the private investigation takes place. Once he finds out about their interest he approaches them to collaborate on the case.

Tavros: Condescension paid for the operation on his legs as a charity move. In return however she expected him to pay it back with interest, plus work for her company.

Aradia: Member of the Felt, but is a mole in the Condescension’s company due to her closeness with the Midnight Crew.

Karkat: Movie director/producer who approached Condescension with a movie script that had hints about the extent of her corruptness. She agreed to fund the movie’s production but backed out on her offer just before its completion, leaving him with no money and no movie.

Both the Felt and the Midnight Crew reside in this city. They are, naturally, enemy gangs, with the Midnight Crew supporting Her Imperious Condescension. The gangs may or may not be roleplayed, the Felt being least likely of the two due to its large number of members. The Midnight Crew might be run by one person who posts updates as to the Crew’s whereabouts and doings, since they are rather involved with the plot.

The setting is an anachronistic AU with a 1920s social/fashion era kind of theme, but with modern technology. The roleplay takes place a few years after sburb/sgrub, and for simplicity’s sake, it’s assumed that the kids and trolls won the game.

The murderer will be decided by a random generator picking between the ten suspected trolls that could have done it. Terezi will be a suspect until it’s found out that she’s an undercover officer, at which point she’ll help the investigators try to solve the case.

Personal reasons and motives for doing things will be left up to the roleplayers to decide. All we’ve tried to do is point out how they’re linked to the murder victim and why that connection makes them a suspect.

Nobody will know who the murderer is except for the murderer themselves and the person in charge who assigns it. That way, it really IS a mystery for everyone to figure out.

A narrator account will help move the plot along by revealing clues and hints that may or may not point the detectives towards the actual murderer. Just like real cases, the detectives will have to cross-examine each piece of information and figure out which clues are helpful and which are red herrings.

There used to be a neat group writing document feature but they seem to have gotten rid of it. It would have been really useful for coming up with plot ideas together but I guess we can deal with old-fashioned group chat. XD

((Again sort of for me, these are key points I want to hit with Eridan.

• establish some kind of friendship with kan over lunch
• feel on edge about the murder and being a suspect; don’t like it if/when john asks questions
• meet up with fef for a reconciliation dinner maybe? last time you’d spoken with her things were a little tense and you screwed up
• sol needs to come in and STEAL THAT BITCH’S HEART. WOO HER.
• get fucking mad at sol but can’t do anything about it because a) he’s a cop, and b) fef wouldn’t stand for it.
• simmer.
• boil.
• sit down like the author you are and use this anger to fuel some muse for your story. Write a few pages before giving up and being depressed.
• figure that you need to get out some because this is starting to play out the same way it did last time.
• idk be a social butterfly, meet other characters. go to the fucking bar or something.
• run into sol without fef there: explain that you and fef are a thing and even if you had a falling out with her she’s still not his for the taking. He seems like a douche anyway and would probably break her heart (total hypocrite)
• conversation gets very heated and tense but can’t deck him in the face for being an insufferable prick. yay more tension!
• this goes on for a while. create lots of anger and conflict between sol and eri over fef to the point where it’s boiling over into other aspects of eridan’s daily life. It’s no longer just about fef, he doesn’t even care about that anymore. sollux has made him feel something besides apathy, and eridan hates him for that, hates him for coming into his life and ruining his routine, making him change his game. He hates that he gives him the muse to write. He hates the fact that he hates him.
• it’s getting borderline obsessive. He almost seems to go out of his way to spite sol, to bump into him at the store or on the street so that he can jab him with an insult or two. it’s getting unhealthy and even though he doesn’t see it that way other people probably do.
• talk to someone about this and realize how much of a problem it really is. just shrug it off as having to do with feferi, but you two made up weeks ago: it doesn’t have to do with her anymore. slowly come to realize this. It’s not about her. It’s about you. It’s about him.
• don’t let yourself admit what you think you’re slowly coming to realize. instead, go home and write furiously, getting a few chapters done rather than your usual few paragraphs. Lots of character development has been going on in your story thanks to your real-life events. You come to face the facts through your characters: the lead has unintentionally fallen for the male character and you are suddenly hit with the fact that you’ve been writing out your own life’s story.
• mental breakdown: what the fuck what the fuck what the fuck no no this isn’t happening what the glubbin fuck
• go talk to fef. she’s the only one you trust.
• and for cod’s sake don’t let sol know what you’ve come to realize you feel towards him.

((Just because I like writing this down for myself, and also in case other people are interested in why I roleplay Eridan like I do.

In my opinion, Eridan is not a whiny little bitch who wants to fill buckets with anyone who gives him so much as a passing glance. I think the fandom sees him as this immature character who can’t take a hint. I don’t. I think that while he was moirails with Fef, he was quite content with himself and where he was in regards to the other trolls. He liked that Fef made him feel needed and appreciated. He was happy to be important to someone. Sure, he might get a little jealous sometimes if she gives attention to someone else, but it’s only because he really doesn’t have anybody besides her and maybe, deep down, he’s afraid that she’ll find them more interesting and he’ll be left behind. He has been there for her her entire life. Then when she’s finally grown, after all this support from Eridan, all this time that he’s looked after her, she leaves him. Not just leaves him, but dumps him and the friendship they held. Completely gone. Down the drain. He’s a stranger to her now. Eridan is now completely on his own, with no one he can turn to.

I feel like it’s in his personality to be a flirt. Maybe he’s done this before but now it certainly shows itself, as he needs companionship and needs to feel important again. He starts trying to strike up relationships with everyone possible because he knows most of them will just turn him down. He thinks Sollux is the obvious choice to start a black relationship with because the guy just stole Fef from him. That sounds pretty reasonable to me. Nowhere in here do I see Eridan throwing himself on the floor wallowing with his buckets. He pities himself, yes, but he isn’t trying to make people love him. He’s just trying to cope with suddenly being so alone. He’s trying to find someone who will be his friend (yes, quadrants, okay fine, find someone who will fill a quadrant and make him seem like he has a purpose.)

So no. During this roleplay, Eridan isn’t going to be some sex-lusting self-pitying sobfest. He’s going to be a friendly flirt, sure, but cautious about actually getting serious with anybody because he’s afraid of getting hurt. He has his own set of problems but doesn’t like to show them because he’s scared that they’ll drive others away. He is going to cherish friends and try to keep them close because it’s rare that anyone shows him positive attention. He’s going to act like probably half of us on the internet do in real life because in reality I think he’s the most human out of the trolls and, personally, the easiest to identify with.

Also my headcanon, he has a faint scottish-english accent.))
